Dr. Ian Niecko

Meet Ian Niecko

As a counseling psychologist, my educational background, training, and experience (including ten years in community behavioral health) in whole person health has set me a unique path that has culminated in beginning this practice. Those who want to establish a body, mind, and heart connection will benefit most by working with me. I am well versed in treating various types and spectrums of trauma and dissociative disorders, depression, anxiety, mood disorders, attentional problems, addiction, spiritual/religious issues, and relationship and family conflict. Ultimately, this has allowed me to create a dynamic therapeutic toolbox that can be personally designed around your needs and goals.

My educational training includes a bachelors of science in education from Central Michigan University, a masters of Divinity and masters of biblical literature from Oral Roberts University, and a doctorate of counseling psychology from Alaska Pacific University.

I am a certified Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) counselor and an EMDR consultant in training (CIT). EMDR is an evidence-based treatment for a variety of disorders. I am currently being trained in administering EMDR intensives and have plans to increasingly roll this out in the future. If this interests you, please relay that to me in your communications. Additionally, I am certified in complex trauma and dissociative disorders through the International Society for the Study of Trauma & Dissociation (ISST-D), a certified Heart Math (biofeedback) practitioner and trained in neurofeedback through the Sadar Psychological and Sports Center (currently pursuing BCIA certification). I also work as an adjunct professor in behavioral sciences at the University of Alaska Southeast.

When I’m not working, I enjoy all kinds of physical activities; e.g. running, cross-training, and hiking the beautiful trails in Juneau, exploring new and traditional ways to feel and be healthy with food, supplementation, and lifestyle. I enjoy solitude, reading (primarily spiritual/religious literature, history, and mysteries around existence) on kindle or paper, ripping a few Lord of the Ring’s quotes, a quality ‘cuppa’ of tea or coffee, either alone or in good company. I am a "certified cat dad" (3 cats!) who also enjoys a good sense of humor and just hanging out and being silly with my best friend and wife Sarah.
