What To Expect

01. Free 15-minute Phone Consultation

I offer a free fifteen minute consultation call to all new referrals. This is quite common among therapists nowadays. The purpose of this call is to help us both establish if I am best suited for your current needs, based on my training, experience and specialties. If so, I will book in an initial assessment appointment. If I’m not the best fit for you, I will try my best to recommend an alternative therapist who is.

02. Client Portal

Once your counseling psychologist has scheduled your first session, you will receive a welcome email with a link to the client portal.

03. Initial Assessment

Following your free 15-minute telephone consultation you will be offered a 90-120 initial assessment. The aim of the assessment session is to gather a history, learn more about you, your situation, and goals for therapy.

04. Treatment Plan

Your counseling psychologist will present you with a treatment plan which will include recommendations for the therapeutic approach(es) and an estimate of the number of sessions likely required in order to meet your goals.

05. Therapy Begins

Other Things To Note

You will be asked to complete questionnaires about your mental and emotional health, risk issues, and possibly other questions relevant to your treatment at the beginning and end of your therapeutic journey to provide objective measurement of your progress.

When working with children or young people, initial assessments are most often attended by the child/young person and their parent(s)/guardian. Discussions about the continued involvement of the parent(s)/guardian in their child’s therapy will take place during the initial assessment. To respect our clients’ individual and unique needs the plan for therapy, including who will be involved and how frequently, this will be contracted at the outset of the therapeutic journey.
